Why I’m fighting for people-centered streets

Hey friends,

It was amazing to see so many of you out and about at CicLAvia last weekend, enjoying miles of open streets together. I hope you had a chance to stop by our booth with fellow City Council candidate, Nancy Barba, and meet our new mascot, too!

The unicorn and my husband, Aaron, have actually never been seen together…. really makes you think.

Here’s a fun 30 second recap of us keeping the party going on Venice Blvd:

CicLAvia is my favorite event in the County, because it prompts us to imagine what life could be like if we invested in people-oriented mobility infrastructure. This weekend’s event was actually the 51st CicLAvia since it came to LA in 2010, an incredible achievement.

I still remember the first CicLAvia I experienced in 2015. I had been in a car accident the year before, and seeing the streets reclaimed for joy, safety, and community was radicalizing.

A visit from Tafarai Bayne and Romel Pascual of Ciclavia

I was inspired to join local advocacy groups like Streets for All and Bike Culver City and even co-create Culver City Pride Ride & Rally, the largest Pride parade on two wheels in the region (just two months away)!  Events like CicLAvia and Culver City Pride allow us to reimagine our public space and find new ways to connect with our neighbors. A city budget that centers people should fund more of these joyous celebrations.

You probably already know we are up against some folks who don’t believe in that vision. In fact, Culver City’s only two open streets were reverted to car traffic last year and one of our few protected bike lanes was voted to be removed.

Will you help us make our vision of open streets and safe streets a reality by making a $51 donation to our campaign today in honor of the 51st Ciclavia event? We are behind on our fundraising goals this month, but with a small push from our supporters, we can get back on track.

All of your donations help us stay competitive in this race so that we can bring our platform of affordable housing, safe streets, and a care-centered budget to the people of Culver City.

If you can’t spare a donation, there are many other ways you can support from door-knocking to getting a yard or window sign. All skills and busy schedules are welcome!

Thank you for standing with me for a better Culver City! We can’t do this without you.
